The internet can provide a wealth of information, making the layman an expert. Or at least in the eyes of the layman. Trying to perform dangerous or complicated repairs that you haven’t mastered can lead to a catastrophe. Many doctors will tell you not to read the internet when trying to self-diagnose yourself. Not only can it lead to unnecessary stress, but you could try a treatment that actually makes the condition worse. The same can be said for homes, or investing, or cars. Yes, the plethora of online videos and tutorials has probably helped the general public become more in tune with their vehicles and overall, the knowledge level has increased for some. However, there are some things you should just not mess with if you are not a certified auto technician. One golden rule that pretty much holds true across all industries and objects is that you should not touch electrical work if you aren’t a technician or electrician.  ... read more

If you have recently purchased a new, shiny automobile, you are probably excited to drive it every morning when you wake up. New cars are generally very healthy. They smell nice, they have no dings or dents, the fluids are clean and topped off, and everything is firing on all cylinders (no pun intended). Cars are like any inanimate object and if you don’t maintain their health, they will begin to deteriorate in both performance and aesthetics. Some parents go over the basics of automobile maintenance when their teenager gets their first car. Let’s discuss some of the basics. Oil changes are something you might see advertised everywhere. Some prefer to change their oil on their own, but most drivers trust a local repair shop to handle it for them. Framerite Auto Repair in Baltimore, Maryland has performed thousands of oil changes over many years. It is as routine as eating breakfast for owner Bill Taylor and his remarkab ... read more

THE IMPORTANCE OF OIL CHANGES The invention of the automobile in the early 1900’s obviously changed the world in myriad ways, much like hundreds of other inventions that took place over the course of the 20th century. The world instantly became smaller, and did again with the popularity of commercial air travel. Americans would hit the open road hard over the next 100+ years. The proliferation of the interstate highway system in the 1950’s increased road travel to such a degree that there was an explosion of industry-related businesses. Thousands of gas stations popped up, as well as auto repair shops, auto body shops, car dealers, oil companies, etc. Cars and trucks come in all shapes and sizes, colors, configurations, and have a wide variety of accessories. The basic nature and structure of vehicles remains consistent, however. They all have engines, transmissions, batteri ... read more

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE CAR - BRAKES AND BRAKE REPAIR IN BALTIMORE “…there’s no use going anywhere, if you can’t stop when you get there.” When Kyle Larson’s car’s brakes failed and he slammed into Ty Dillon’s car in a NASCAR race this July, they were probably traveling at upwards of 120 MPH, which on it’s face appears to be the catalyst for a catastrophe. Luckily NASCAR vehicles are equipped with world-class safety features, such as the game-changing HANS device (Head and Neck Support restraint). The accident itself begs the question however- what would happen in normal city traffic if a car lost the ability to brake? Brakes are one of the components of your automobile that need to be maintained on a regular basis. Frequently drivers will get oil changes, fill the car up with gas, add wiper fluid, or inflate tires. Although a process lik ... read more

Let's talk about windshield wiper blades. It's something we really don't think about unless it's raining, then forget about when the rain stops. We should think about wiper blades as one part of the safety systems on our vehicles. Wiper blades help us see the same as glasses or contacts help us see with our eyes. When they are worn they smear the rain across our windshield creating streaks. New wiper blades and a clean windshield can make all the difference driving in the rain. Remember wiper blades live on the outside of the vehicle exposed to the hot sun in the summer and cold in the winter. Replacing your wiper blades in the spring and the fall will help with driving conditions year round. At Framerite Auto Repair we stock many sizes so if the need arises we can take care of you right away

Well it's that time of year again, snow & ice on the roads being treated with salt. The salt and cold combine to create potholes that we seem to find every time we go out to drive. Generally, it takes a couple of weeks for the potholes to be filled so until that time try to remember where they are. If you are unfortunate enough to hit a deep pothole and you notice your vehicle is not handling the same, get it checked out immediately. Small changes in your alignment can cause rapid tire wear. Sometimes damage to the tire and or wheel occurs that will cause shaking or pulling to one side or the other. At Framerite Auto Repair we have been correcting problems like these for over 67 years. Just give us a call and we will get you back to smooth driving again

I slid into a curb, now what do I do? If you have been unfortunate enough to slide into a curb, the first thing to check is the tire. You need to make sure it is safe to drive on. If you can drive your vehicle, see if there is a change in how it handles. Any change would indicate damage that needs to be checked by an ASE certified technician. Even slight damage will cause rapid tire wear and extremely poor handling, especially in wet conditions. A tire can wear so fast and cause a blowout, resulting in loss of control of your vehicle. When an alignment is performed, we make adjustments down to a 1/16th of an inch so any change can cause rapid tire wear. At Framerite Auto Repair we have been taking care of these situations for 67 years. Chances are we may have worked on your parents or grandparent’s car, as we hear this quite often. Give us a call and we will return your vehicle to safe and reliable driving again!

We are starting to see a mid 2000’s GM SUVs and trucks come in with the front sway bar bracket that is rusting away and becoming totally detached. When this happens and you are driving down the road, you hear a big clunking noise as you go over bumps. But the good news is that it can be fixed. It just takes a little while because you have to get a donor from the junkyard with a good bracket. This is because GM doesn't sell the part by itself. Once we do that and get it all back together, your vehicle is all back to whole again

Do you know if your tires will get you through the 6-12 inches of snow in the immediate forecast? If you don't know the answer you better find out. Winter weather is starting early early and slippery conditions can appear without warning. If your tires tread is too thin slipping and sliding is in your forecast. Check your tread depth with a quarter. If you can't see the top of George's head you should be alright. Personally I would not want to see his hairline on top of his head. You can also look between the tread bars for the wear indicator. The tread wear indicator is a small rubber bar that if near even with the remaining tread lets you know your tires need to be replaced. If you have any questions stop by for a quick inspection and we will show you what to look for. Here at Framerite Auto Repair we can take care of you and your vehicle to keep you safe for whatever Old Man Winter brings
