Is That My Car That Smells Like Gas?"

"Why do I smell gasoline when I am near my car?"  Have you ever had a strong whiff of gas and wondered if it's your car or somebody else's in the parking lot? You drive home and you may or may not get the odor of gas. The next morning you leave for work and there it is again. Now you are wondering what to do now. Check around your vehicle to see if there is a noticeable leak under the car. If not and the odor is strong enough towing it to the shop is recommended. Gasoline odors can be caused by a leak somewhere in the fuel evaporative emissions systems. Some possibilities include a rusted fuel line, fuel seeping by connections in the fuel system or an emissions system hose that has split open. Remember that gasoline fumes can be dangerous and a health hazard. Gasoline fumes can catch fire if exposed to a spark or flame. Whatever the cause give Framerite Auto Repair a call to fix the problem. Remember the fire risk is h ... read more

Do you need brakes or wonder if you do?  Each year during the month of October, we participate in a program called Brakes for Breasts. Brakes for Breasts is a fundraising program dedicated to the development of a vaccine that prevents breast cancer.  Dr. Tuohy at the Cleveland Clinic has actually created a vaccine that has proved effective in laboratory animals in actually preventing breast cancer. Think about Polio, eradicated because of a vaccine, a distant memory for most generations. This is the same principle! Dr. Tuohy and his team are rounding the corner and are hoping to start Phase 1 trials in early 2020. 100% of the proceeds from the ‘Brakes for Breasts’ fundraiser goes directly to the Cleveland Clinic for research on the Breast Cancer Vaccine. How Do I Know When I Need New Tires?

How Do I Know When I Need New Tires?

This was a blog post from a while ago but it bears reposting, especially while there is a rebate on Hankook tires. There are several ways to determine if you need new tires. One way is to insert a quarter upside down into the tire's tread. If you can see the top of Ole George's head then your tread is measuring 4/32 and the tire needs to be replaced. Another sign that you need new tires is the presence of grooves or cracks in the sidewall. Other indicators are blisters and bulges because they can quickly become the source of a dangerous blowout. In addition, feeling too much vibration when driving can be a sign of several issues. Your tires may need balancing or you may need an alignment. The vibration can actually be a sign of a problem with your tire. If you have any questions concerning your tires, or any other vehicle repair or maintenance issue, give us a call and our certified mechanics will be happy to answer your questions and advise you. #newtires #tiresnearme #tires ... read more

'It's Hot and Car's My Air Conditioner Isn't Working!'

It is hot outside and my vehicle’s air conditioner is not working. How much will it cost to fix? There are many reasons why your vehicle is not producing cold air. The most common problem is a lack of refrigerant because of a leak in the system. Leaks can sometimes be difficult to find if it takes a long time to seep out. In these cases we will evacuate and recharge the system and add dye to help determine where the leak is. Sometimes it is an electrical problem. If the compressor is not operating it needs to be determined why. Is it a fuse, relay, sensor etc. As you can see there are many reasons why the air conditioner is not working. Give us a call so our certified technicians can diagnose your problem and get you cold air again, making summer driving a breeze

What Is That Puddle Under My Car?

Why do I see a puddle of water under my car? We get this question often when the weather turns hot and humid. What you actually see is condensation from the air conditioner dripping on the ground. The air conditioner is in reality removing the heat from the air and dispersing it at the condenser that sits in front of the radiator. A byproduct of a properly working air conditioning unit is the water you see on the ground which should be clear. If there is any color to the liquid it is probably something else leaking and should be diagnosed. If you have any concerns with your air conditioner our certified technicians can diagnose your problem to keep you cool while driving in the summer heat!

What Is The Right Way to Repair My Tire?

What Is The Right Way to Repair My Tire?

What is the right way to repair my tire? For years repairing a tire took only a few minutes to determine where the source of the leak was and installing a plug into the tread. The problem with this procedure is the inside of the tire is not inspected for damage. As you can see in the picture, the inside of this tire has ground up pieces of rubber from being driven on flat. This tire was repaired with a plug but the structural integrity of the tire has been compromised. The correct repair in this situation is replacement of the tire. Removing the tire from the wheel would have revealed the damage. A tire that has not been damaged and the puncture is not too large and in between the outer tread bars would require a patch plug repair on the inside. After the repair, balancing the tire finishes the the job. Repairing a tire the correct way is the only safe solution and the way we at Framerite Auto Repair do it
